Rules of the abalone farm are easily followed, perhaps not so easy to remember. Don't put your hands directly into the tanks - many a hapless farmhand and curious tourist have lost a finger to hungry or territorial abalone who looked a lot slower than they really were. Never make direct eye contact with the abalone farm staff, they are a renegade sort with little patience for or interest in getting to know outsiders, and can be as easily provoked as the abalone themselves.
As the abalone farm has developed, so to has the culture and lore surrounding these mysterious archetypes of individualistic entrepreneurialism. Not so long ago it was though that only a crazy person would start an abalone farm. Not too long after that, after word began to get around about the antics of the proprietors of many a town's local abalone farm, it was confirmed for many that indeed yes, insanity, or something quite akin to it, was a prime prerequisite to owning and operating an abalone farm.
